Tablets are a cross between a smartphone and a laptop and are currently the most sought after device in the tech world right now.



So far, the Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 are the only mainstream contenders for the number one tablet.


Tablets are no doubt going to be this year's most popular gift for Christmas, but how you do the impossible task of choosing which one to buy if you're not particularly tech savvy?



I've reviewed some of the current and up and coming tablets on the market so the all important decision can be that little bit easier for you.



All tablets allow users to browse the Internet with their fingertips, flick through photos, read e-books and even watch films but which tablets really stand out from the crowd?



Apple iPad 2


The iPad 2 is the second generation of the iPad, a tablet computer designed, developed and marketed by Apple Inc. It serves primarily as a platform for audio-visual media including books, periodicals, movies, music, games and web content, and is available in black or white. The Foxconn China-manufactured iPad 2 has a lithium-ion polymer battery that lasts up to 10 hours, a new dual core Apple A5 processor and VGA front-facing and 720p rear-facing cameras designed for FaceTime video calling.



The iPad 2 uses iOS 4.3.3. The 4.3.1 system fixed a bug with the graphics on the iPod touch, as well as problems connecting to some cellular networks, and authenticating with some enterprise web services.It has a dual core Apple A5 processor that Apple claims doubles processing speed and has graphics processing that is up to nine times faster than the previous iPad.The iPad 2 has a 25 watt-hour rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery that lasts 10 hours.It has front and rear-facing cameras.




Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 series is an Android-based tablet computer produced by Samsung, introduced on February 13, 2011 at its Samsung Unpacked event in Barcelona.
It belongs to the next generation of the Samsung Galaxy Tab series, which consists of the 10.1" model and the 8.9" model. Similar in design to the Samsung Galaxy S II, it directly competes in the market against the Apple iPad 2.



The Galaxy label 10.1 ships with Android 3.1, the latest account of Google's Honeycomb OS.
